1) The benefits of camping during COVID times

  • Safety: Camping during the pandemic is by far the safest way to travel as you have your kitchen and bathroom, can keep your distance from others and can easily explore those more remote places you have always wanted to. When travelling in a camper, you can be almost completely isolated from the masses. The occasional grocery trip is unavoidable.
  • Flexibility: With a camper, you have a high level of flexibility, as you can reroute your trip by simply driving somewhere else. Also, you can cancel your trip thanks to our 48-hour cancellation policy.
  • Being in nature: Studies have shown that being in nature increases your health and happiness. So, recharge your batteries and take a break from the everyday hustle and bustle.

2) FreewayCamper COVID policy

  • 48-hour cancellation policy: If you cancel your trip 48-hours before your trip, you can rebook for a later period in 2022 or receive a voucher free of charge. You can find all further information in our FAQs!
  • Safety: At FreewayCamper, we take extra care in the cleaning and disinfecting of the vehicles. Furthermore, campers themselves also offer a high level of safety against the coronavirus. You have your kitchen and bathroom, can explore remote places and avoid the masses.
  • Contactless handover: Upon request, it is possible to make the camper handover/return completely contactless. Nothing can get in the way of your perfect adventure.

3) Frequently asked questions:

Travel warning and travel ban?

A travel warning is not a general travel ban. The travel warning only advises against tourist travel. Nevertheless, it is vital to assess whether a holiday in your chosen country is safe and responsible.

Where can you stay when the campsites are closed?

According to Section 12 of the Highway Code, you are allowed to "restore your driving ability" at any public parking lot where it is not expressly prohibited. You may spend up to 10 hours there, but you must note that camping is forbidden. That means you can't put your camping table and chairs in front of the camper. You can find these spots via the app Park4night and more information about wild camping in Germany in our blog.

In which countries is it currently possible to travel?

Currently, some countries in Europe are classified as high-risk areas by the federal government. You can find all the latest information here and on the Robert Koch Institute website.

What do I do if the borders are closed?

If the rules change during your vacation, you are permitted to go home, as that is considered a valid reason. Also, you don't have to leave on the same day if the rules have changed. Inform yourself in time and be prepared to be dynamic and flexible.

Do I need to quarantine?

For travellers returning from a holiday within Germany, there is currently (as of 16.11.) no quarantine obligation. When returning from a high-risk area, a 10-day quarantine is mandatory. Those who are vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 are exempt from the quarantine. The quarantine can be shortened on the 5th day by a negative Corona test. All returning must also fill out a digital entry declaration and present it at border control.
